Today we sit down with The Bookshelf manager, Rebekah!
What are you currently reading? I am currently enjoying Liar, Temptress, Soldier, Spy: Four Women Undercover in the Civil War by Karen Abbott. Reading about these women who defied convention to fight for what they believed in is incredibly inspiring! I was also thrilled to find that two of the women in the book were the inspiration for the two main characters in one of my favorite books growing up, Girl in Blue by Ann Rinaldi. The separation between fact and fiction is fascinating. These women were truly remarkable.
How many books do you normally read at a time? Never more than two, and if I am reading two at a time, one will be fiction and one nonfiction. Unless you also count my textbooks in which case I'm always reading WAY too many at one time, haha.
Bookmarks or rabbit ears? You will never ever find rabbit ears in my books! Only bookmarks. I'm one of those readers whose books look brand new years after they've been purchased. I'm also really stingy with who I lend them out to. Even my family members know not to rabbit ear the pages or lay them face open to keep their places, (creases in the spine are to be avoided if at all possible.) Sometimes I even remove the jacket before traveling with a book or letting my sisters borrow it. I'm ridiculous…I know. But my books are so beautiful!
Write in a book or keep it pristine? If it's fiction I won't write in it, but with nonfiction books I'm more likely to underline or write in the margins. When I come across an especially hard-hitting or insightful statement I'm more likely to retain it when I mark it or copy it down somewhere.
What's next on your list to read? Oh goodness, what isn't on the list? It grows daily, haha. Right now I'm thinking Egg & Spoon by Gregory Maguire will be next, but Rooms by Lauren Oliver is a contender. Jane Eyre is also begging to be a reread. It just feels like a fall read.
Be sure to stop by The Bookshelf tomorrow morning at 11am for story time with Rebekah!
