Five on Friday with PWAF's James Prosek.

The Thomasville Center for the Art's Plantation Wildlife Arts Festival is quickly approaching (November 21-23 to be exact). PWAF features 65 of the best sporting and wildlife artists in one location, which is one of the many reasons that you should attend. Another excellent reason would be to meet James Prosek ( who is holding a lecture on Wildlife Conservation Saturday, November 22, 1pm at TCA & Sunday, November 23, 1pm at TCA). James is not only a speaker on wildlife, but also an artist, author, naturalist, co-founder of a conservation initiative, and proud graduate of Yale. Today we we honored to chat with the talented James for The Bookshelf's Five on Friday!

What are you currently reading? I'm reading a biography by Leonard Warren about a quirky 19th century naturalist named Constantine Rafinesque... it's part of research for a book I'm writing on how and why we name and order the natural world...

Write in a book or keep it pristine? I write ALL OVER my books.  I make notes, underline, put post it notes all over ...  you name it ...  that's why I like to read paper books.

Where do you like to go for inspiration? I like to walk out in my backyard to a shade garden I've been working on for ten years of mostly native plants.  I built a tiny cabin back there ...

If you had to pick only one medium to express yourself, what would it be (writing, painting, sculpting, etc.)? Oooh... that's a tough one.  I really wouldn't want to choose, but if I had only one I suppose it would be drawing/painting...

What are you the most excited about with the Plantation Wildlife Art Festival? I'm excited to see Thomasville, to meet people who live there and elsewhere and to experience some of the local cultural things... someone was kind enough to offer to take me on a quail hunt.  I'm looking forward to that very much and to seeing the landscape of the area.

We hope you will be able to participate in many of the Plantation Wildlife Arts Festival this year, but sincerely desire that you will be able to attend James Prosek's lecture on Wildlife Conservation (& stop by The Bookshelf to pick up a few of his books). It is truly an event that you will not want to miss!
