With October (and Halloween!) behind us, the staff here at The Bookshelf are ready to dive into this holiday season with probably more excitement than necessary (we're a bit enthusiastic). This holiday season brings many changes with it, including the loss of some staffers here, but, do not be discouraged! We are still so excited to act as a community gathering place and staple in Downtown Thomasville by hosting holiday events and giveaways for our beloved customers. We so enjoyed mingling with the community this past weekend at both the Covey Film Festival and the Poe readings at the Lapham-Patterson House Historic Site (hopefully you attended and said hi!). We have also recently introduced a new product for the holidays (and we might continue year-round), Shelf Selections. If you checked us out last month, you would've seen our FALL SHELF SELECTION – featuring specially curated books and gifts found here in the shop representative of the fall season. This month, we're happy to bring you the HOLIDAY SHELF SELECTION inspired by this lovely holiday season, and here's also a reminder to enroll in our Book-a-Month Club (also found on our website).
In the spirit of a true community gathering place, this upcoming Friday (First Friday – as I'm sure Thomasville natives are more than familiar with) we are hosting Soup Night! If you haven't checked out our previous blog "The importance of indie," then I suggest you do because you'll find that Soup Night is something that Annie still describes as a "favorite memory" and it has been a hit with patrons since its inception. We're hoping to continue this tradition by having our staffers prepare and serve their own soups – whilst holding a friendly competition for most popular soup (no pressure guys)! There will also be a giveaway in which a couple lucky attendees will win paper placemat sets akin to the cookbook FOREST FEAST GATHERINGS (ring a bell anyone?). We hope that y'all will join us down at First Friday, and check out all of the other small businesses participating as well. As you can probably tell by now, we are in full swing preparing for this holiday season – with new arrivals, new displays, and holiday wrapping! - if you've followed us on Instagram. Pop on by and get your favorite book lover a holiday gift (or treat yo'self – something we're very fond of here at The 'Shelf).
We're nearing the finish line for the nomination and preliminary round of the Indie Awards (just a reminder!). If you haven't already, or if you just haven't done so today (each person can vote once every 24 hours!), please click on the link below to vote for The Bookshelf and help promote the small business community within Thomasville. This will generate recognition and publicity for our small shop, and would be greatly appreciated for the growth and development of The Bookshelf as a business and community gathering place. And let's begin looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas here in Thomasville with author events and Downtown Holiday Open House coming up!
Thanks y'all, and wishing the best,
