We host all kinds of events and happenings at the shop every month: story times, letter writing clubs, author signings, and more! You can find tickets for our upcoming ticketed events here. If you're an author and would like to host an event at The Bookshelf, please read our author guidelines, then send an email to events [at] bookshelfthomasville [.com]. We'll be in touch!
Story Time @ the 'Shelf
Saturdays at 11:00 a.m.
Join us every Saturday morning for story time with local kiddos! We gather in our children's section for 15 to 20 minutes to read a staff-favorite picture book together, then work on a themed craft and talk about what we've read. Some weeks, we sing songs and play games! We love gathering with the children and helping them learn to love reading as much as we do! Saturday story times are led by our shop owner, Annie, or local or visiting authors.
Bookshelf MOVIE NIGHTS
At The Bookshelf, we’re big proponents of reading the book before you ever watch the movie. We also tend to think the book is better. But lately we’ve been wondering: Is that really true? Is the book always better, and if so, why? Enter The Bookshelf Movie Nights, a gathering of readers devoted to discussion and discourse about the books and movies we love. We’ll announce a book every so often, then meet in The Bookshelf to watch the movie adaptation. So far, we've enjoyed the film adaptation of Harper Lee’s beloved To Kill a Mockingbird, Charles Portis' classic, True Grit, the newest adaptation of Jane Eyre, and the war film All Quiet on the Western Front.
Reader Meet Writer
Annually each SPRING at the Thomas County Public Library
Together, The Bookshelf and the Thomas County Public Library host this regional author event designed to connect readers to local writers. Over a dozen authors from North Florida and South Georgia sign and sell copies of their latest books and mingle with event attendees during this annual event. Are you a local author interested in attending our 2017 event? Email Annie for more information!
One Book Thomas County
Annually each FALL
Every year, The Bookshelf partners with Thomas County Public Library to celebrate literacy with One Book Thomas County. Our entire community reads one book together, and we spend a week celebrating the chosen book and its themes. This past autumn, we honored The Happiness Project, a New York Times bestselling memoir by Gretchen Rubin. Stay tuned for details on One Book 2017!
