Five on Friday with Lynn Matson.

The Bookshelf is excited to announce that author of Nil, Lynn Matson will be at the store tomorrow from 6-7pm for a signing! Nil is an exciting, fast-paced young adult novel that will keep any reader on their toes. Just read this description and try not to crave more-- "On the mysterious island of Nil, the rules are set. You have exactly 365 days to escape—or you die. Seventeen-year-old Charley doesn’t know the rules. She doesn’t even know where she is. The last thing she remembers is blacking out, and when she wakes up, she’s naked in an empty rock field. Lost and alone, Charley finds no sign of other people until she meets Thad, the gorgeous leader of a clan of teenage refugees. Soon Charley learns that leaving the island is harder than she thought . . . and so is falling in love. With Thad’s time running out, Charley realizes that she has to find a way to beat the clock, and quickly, in this thrilling debut novel by Lynne Matson.

What are you currently reading? Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke by Anne Blankman. It’s the sequel to Anne’s riveting and highly-acclaimed debut Prisoner of Night and Fog PRISONER. I loved Prisoner, and Conspiracy is just as fantastic. Anne’s prose is gorgeous, her characters are compelling, and the setting of Nazi Germany is both terrifying and moving. I can’t recommend these books highly enough.

How many books do you normally read at a time? Just one! Once I start a book, I can’t stop!:)

Bookmarks or rabbit ears? Oooo… tough question. Usually bookmarks, but I’ve been known to turn down a page in a pinch.

Write in a book or keep it pristine? I keep them pristine, unless it’s a galley copy from an author friend. I’m in a blog group called the YA Valentines comprised of other Young Adult authors all debuting in 2014, and we circulate advance copies (advance reader copies, also called galleys) of our books among the group. As books bounce between us, we all write in the various ARCs. But otherwise, I keep books pristine.:)

What's next on your list to read? A THOUSAND PIECES OF YOU by Claudia Gray and LIARS, INC. by Paula Stokes. I’m also really looking forward to Anita Grace Howard’s ENSNARED (the conclusion to the SPLINTERED trilogy, an Alice in Wonderland retelling). That series was fabulous.

We hope to see you tomorrow at The Bookshelf for story time with Dona Carruth (11am), for a Shelf Signing with Ann Mock (1-3pm), and to meet the wonderful Lynn Matson (6-7pm) for a Shelf Signing! Also, be on the lookout for Lynn's next novel, Nil Unlocked, to debut May 15, 2015 (we can't wait)!
