September, September

Well, here it is folks! September has arrived, and with it a glorious burst of cool weather that has been divine these last couple of days. I'm sure we are bound to see summer weather return before October, however, it's been a nice reprieve.

With the arrival of September is a whole list of events that we are so excited about. I figured I would take a minute to invite you all to some of the fun things we have planned here at The Bookshelf as we welcome Fall with open arms!

We are thrilled to be partnering with TOSAC this year in their TOSAC Fest by hosting three local authors and playwrights for a Q&A session spread out over the next couple of weeks. Starting this evening (that's right, clear your calendars!) we will be hearing from Joana Russell, whose play is set to debut this weekend! I've heard good things about it, you should definitely check it out and feel free to come pick her brain from 5-6pm on her writing process and thoughts on writing. Tune back in September 24th to hear from author Allie Howe, and again September 29th to hear from Robin Branda. You can read more about the event here. Can't wait to hear from these local gems!

Join us Saturday at Thomas County Public Library as Annie and I will be hosting Reader Meet Writer where we will have an incredible list of fifteen regional authors who have agreed to participate in this super fun annual event. Each of the authors will be sharing on their books which will be available for purchase at the event. We are also excited to have regional author Prissy Elrod MC the event for us. Come on out! Should be a fun time. We have had a lot of success with this event in the past, thanks to our wonderful community, and we look forward to another year. Details found here!

The last Saturday in September (the 26th) we are relaunching the Letter Writing Club!! This is one of my favorite events and it was sad to see it go for the summer, but we are happy to start it again. Come to The Bookshelf Saturday the 26th from 10-12 and write your loved ones, friends, or pen pals an old fashioned snail mail letter. Who doesn't love getting those in the mail, right?? We provide the supplies and even the stamps. All you have to do is show up and put your lovely words on paper. Event info found here.

And last, but certainly not least on our calendar of events for the month is our Forever Young Adult book club meeting on September 28th at 6pm as they discuss Uprooted by Naomi Novik. Book clubs are a phenomenal way to stay connected with your community and we love ours! Just a little hint for you guys, if you're in a book club anywhere (even if it's not held at The Bookshelf) we will give you 10% off your book club's selection for the month and we are more than happy to keep your books in stock! And of course we are always happy to host your meetings if you are looking for a fun local venue.

So that's it for September, folks! We had a wildly successful coloring night early in the month where we got to see some of your lovely faces and creations. We plan on hosting more nights like that, so stay tuned in to our Facebook and Instagram as we will be announcing those dates shortly!

We are endlessly grateful for the support of all of you who come see us at The Bookshelf, so once again, thank you all for helping us make the store what it is. We couldn't do it without you!

Now, enjoy this Fall weather while it lasts, and have a wonderful week! We hope to see you at some of our upcoming events.

All My Best,

Kathryn ArwoodComment
