In which we're closed on Labor Day, but crafting next Thursday.
It's been a good summer, but it's also been a long one. I've traveled almost every weekend, and life's just felt a little too chaotic for my taste. A lot of customers and friends, I've noticed, are feeling the same way. This weekend, then, is the perfect time to let summer go, to bid adieu to a fun and hectic season and to greet my favorite season of them all: autumn, of course.
No, we Southerners don't really greet fall on Labor Day weekend -- it's much too hot and humid for that. But in my heart, the turning of the calendar to September means a new routine, a fresh start. Cooler weather is coming, and the breeze in the air and the clear skies mean happy, full days are ahead.
This Friday, we'll be open until 8 p.m. to celebrate First Friday with downtown Thomasville. It's rain or shine, and Southerners have never let a tropical storm get them down, so come out regardless of the weather. I'll be working and doing a few "flash Friday" sales, and I'd love to see your smiling face in the store. We've got Bookshelf pins and a couple of tote bags to give away, too!
We'll be closed for Labor Day on Monday, but never fear: We'll reopen first thing Tuesday morning, and we'll use next week to kick off a lot of fun September events, including our first-ever Craft Night. Bring your friends and $5 to make a pretty, Zooey Deschanel-inspired brooch. They're really adorable, and I love the idea of using The Bookshelf as a place to create together.
So, to recap, we're open late on Friday, and we'll be giving away stuff, plus having a few sales. We're closed on Monday, but we've got Craft Night on Thursday to brighten your week. We're easing out of summer and into fall, and I'm so ready. I hope you are, too.
