Introducing the 2018 Reading Challenge!
Over the past few years I've made it a point to occasionally pick up books I usually wouldn't, and as a result my reading life has become richer and more fulfilling. It's often difficult to know how to go about expanding your taste in books, but this is where reading challenges come in! For example, I didn't discover how much I enjoy graphic novels until I read one for a reading challenge. Three years later, it's one of my favorite genres.
This year we're launching our own year-long reading challenge. It's designed to help you read outside your comfort zone and explore more of what the world of books offers us.
Complete our 2018 challenge by reading the following:
- A book shorter than 100 pages
- A book about history or politics
- A fantasy or science fiction book
- A book that is being made into a movie or TV series this year
- A YA book
- A book by a person of color
- A book set in a country you'd like to visit
- A book set in Georgia
- A book of poetry
- A graphic novel
- A book recommended on From the Front Porch
- A book from a staffer's shelf
If these tasks seem daunting, never fear: we will blog regularly about our recommendations for each of them, and Annie and Chris will have some suggestions on the podcast, too!
We've got challenge sheets available at the register, and we'll make them available online for our out-of-town readers. Once you've finished, email your sheet to firstname.lastname@example.org or bring it into the store for 20% off one hardcover book. And keep us updated on what you're reading!
